Charitable Work

Education and care are at the core of the Community of St Mary the Virgin’s mission, with a particular focus on the needs of women and girls.

Community projects for education and care were initiated by the Community in India, South Africa and Botswana and relationships with those establishments are still strong today.

Following in the tradition of the Community’s interest in education, strong links have been established with two local School Trusts – The Vale Academy Trust and Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust.  CSMV also provide affordable accommodation to those embarking on a career in teaching in Oxfordshire.  St Mary’s Lodge is a stylish renovation of a Victorian property situated on the edge of Wantage combining six self-contained flats for the exclusive use of newly qualified teachers.

Spiritual guidance too, is an important part of the Community’s mission and values. The Community supports three UK charities – Discovering Prayer, BeSpace and the Community of St Frideswide – who provide resources for prayer to support those who wish to deepen their relationship with God.

Supporting vulnerable women has been a longstanding part of the work of the Community of St Mary the Virgin, both internationally and here in the UK.  So it is with great pleasure that we have been able to form a supportive relationship with a charity, Medaille Trust, that exists to provide protection to victims of modern slavery as well as working with UK and overseas agencies to raise awareness and prevent human trafficking.
