CSMV Oblates are women and men, lay or ordained, married or single, from any Christian denomination, who feel drawn by God to express in their own lives the charism of the Community. They seek to live out their vocation in the midst of the world, offering themselves to God in all the circumstances of their daily life and in the spirit of Mary’s words:
“Here I am, the servant of the Lord;
let it be with me according to your word” — Luke 1.38
This calling is shaped by a Rule of Life based on Scripture and the Rule of St Augustine. Each Oblate also draws up a personal Rule of Life which is flexible according to the individual’s circumstances. It includes the saying of the Daily Office, prayer and bible study, the sacraments, spiritual reading, regular retreat, stewardship of resources and simplicity of life.
Those called to this way of life undergo a time of discernment as Novice Oblates. After a minimum of two years, the commitment of Oblation may be made, which is then renewed annually.
Oblates are an integral part of the Community in their common commitment to a life of prayer and service and are linked to one another through visits to the Convent, monthly mailings, the summer gathering and where possible through local group meetings. The six members of the Oblates’ Council, together with Sr. Stella, the Oblates’ Liaison Sister, seek to enable a spirit of mutual support and inspiration within the Oblate Fellowship. There are currently Oblates both in the United Kingdom and overseas.
