A Vicar from Oxfordshire, the Revd Tim Hewes, was amongst climate activists arrested as part of the recent mass protests in London.

Tim, a friend of CSMV, who regularly participates in our worship at St Mary’s Convent, was amongst five protestors from Extinction Rebellion Wantage group arrested in the capital.

“For over 12 years I have been passionate, even desperate about the welfare of the planet,” says Tim. “I joined Extinction Rebellion to take non violent direct action and to do what I could to avoid irreversible, catastrophic harm and mass loss of life from climate breakdown.

Almost 600 protestors were arrested in the first two days of the demonstration.

Tim was arrested outside Downing Street by police officers, “who conducted themselves with the highest standards of professionalism,” says Tim. “Some hours later as I left the custody block several of them shook my hand conveying a friendship that I cherish.”

“Preserving the Earth and its resources for future generations is vital,” says Sister Stella, Sister in Charge of CSMV. “We were proud of Tim’s stand on this issue. We urge our politicians and leaders to address immediately the looming crisis the world is facing, and take decisive and concrete actions to halt the damage being done.”
