THE SISTERS OF THE COMMUNITY OF SAINT MARY THE VIRGIN, WANTAGE ARE TO STAY IN THEIR COMMUNITY HOUSE IN WANTAGE.

The Community, founded nearly 170 years ago by the Vicar of Wantage, had been exploring the possibility of moving to a new location, assisted by local estate agent, Green & Co.

However, during a search, which extended across southern England, the Sisters felt that the Community’s original purpose could best be renewed and invigorated by staying in their home town.

‘Wantage is our historical and spiritual home,’ says Sister Stella, acting Sister in Charge. ‘It has now become clear to us that this is where our future lies. We need to rise to the challenge of building a 21st century context which adds to the Community’s original purpose.’

The Sisters have a long history of working in the areas of education and community support.

The Sisters’ attention will now turn to new ways of building a future more closely linked with the local community.
